Double Planetary & Discharge System

May 6, 2012
Ross Double Planetary Mixers and Discharge Systems are ideal for quick processing of non-flowing viscous mixtures. Turnkey processes utilizing the change-can mixer and discharge platen routinely benefit from shorter cycle times and lower operating costs compared to conventional horizontal sigma blade mixers and kneader extruders. Cleaning and changeover procedures are very operator-friendly: a hydraulic lift raises and lowers the agitators in/out of the mix vessel, enabling full access; multiple interchangeable vessels may be used for semi-continuous operation or dedicated to specific formulations to reduce cleaning frequency; and very importantly, the discharge operation thoroughly wipes down the vessel sidewalls leaving only a thin layer of product on the bottom to be cleaned out manually.

Pictured is a 40-gallon Double Planetary Mixer with Discharge System. The mixer is equipped with two helical High Viscosity “HV” blades that rotate on their own axes orbiting the mix vessel on a common axis. This mixer blade configuration is suitable for handling viscous batches up to 6 million cP. After the mixing cycle, the vessel is rolled over the discharge station. The precisely-machined platen is lowered hydraulically into the vessel, forcing the non-flowing material out through a valve in the vessel bottom within minutes. The Discharge System is activated by a self-contained hydraulic power unit and designed for up to 65 psi under the platen. A plasma coating applied to the contact parts of the discharge platen allows for easier product release and enhanced cleanability.
