Ross Tank-Mounted High Speed Disperser for Polyurethane Coatings
January 5, 2020
A specialty manufacturer of polyurethane-based coatings and adhesives sought Ross for a major fast-paced expansion project. They supply to the sports industry where their products are applied to surfaces of tracks, gym floors, courts and playgrounds.
To increase manufacturing capacity, the customer required a large high speed disperser to be mounted on their 6,500-gallon mix tank. At this scale, lot-to-lot uniformity is critical in order to cut down on processing and QC costs.
The customer chose our competitive offer for a Ross Model HSD-200 Tank Mounted High Speed Disperser and we matched their delivery demand of 8 weeks after receipt of approval drawings.
The 28†disperser blade is belt-driven by a 200 HP explosion-proof motor to produce a maximum speed of 675 rpm (tip speed: 4,900 fpm). Wetted parts are stainless steel type 304.
The HSD-200TM is mounted on a custom flange to match the customer’s tank with a 19†dia. opening. Adjustable packing and packing glands are located below the lower bearing to seal the customer’s vessel for up to 3 psig internal pressure (nitrogen purging purposes) or up to 25â€Hg vacuum pressure. As a close tolerance barrier, a Teflon Lip Seal is installed in the mixing shaft below the packing. The unit included a 200 HP Variable Frequency Drive enclosed in an explosion-proof operator’s station with on/off pushbutton and speed potentiometer.
